  • Secure a part-time job. Seek additional employment, even if it is not in your field of expertise.

  • Get help. Contact a local temporary employment agency. They offer a variety of positions and are flexible with your schedule. Many positions have the potential to become permanent.

  • Make the most of what you have. Ask your current employer about opportunities for overtime or consider asking for that well deserved pay increase.

  • Improve your skills. Contact Community Action Groups for training opportunities. Visit your local library and read about the latest trends in your field.

  • Expand your network. Join a professional group and attend job fairs. Sometimes, getting that perfect job is as much about who you know as what you know.

Use Your Skills to Earn More Money

  • Have a garage sale. Remember, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure.

  • Become a cyber-entrepreneur. Sell unwanted items through an online auction service, such as Craigslist or eBay.

  • Reduce, reuse and recycle. Collecting and redeeming recyclables is good for the environment and your wallet.

  • Make the most of your space. If you have an extra room, consider taking in a boarder. If your garage is empty, rent it as storage.

  • Market your skills. Explore hobbies to see if there are income opportunities. Some examples of potentially profitable skills include sewing and cooking. If you are handy, consider doing home repairs or mechanical work.

  • Explore your own neighborhood. Local businesses often offer convenience and flexible schedules. Check with local retail stores, restaurants, convenience stores, hotels and medical offices for opportunities.

  • Think outside the box. The sky is the limit. Consider these additional income possibilities: pet-sitting, dog-walking, house-sitting, childcare, newspaper routes, limousine services, delivery services, housekeeping, office cleaning, personal coach, personal trainer, sports coach, umpire, tutor, substitute teacher, recreational assistant, technical school instructor, car washes, etc. Let your imagination run wild!
